As part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is the federal agency dedicated to creating knowledge in the field of occupational safety and health and to transferring that knowledge into practice.
NIOSH’s Personal Protective Technology Laboratory was formed due to a need for improved personal protective equipment and focused research into personal protective technologies. Respiratory protection is the cornerstone of the Laboratory’s efforts. One of our primary functions is to test and approve respirators for occupational use.
